Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership.
Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
Reflection:
This shared vision paper was created in ITEC 7410, which was create in Spring 2016. The creation of this artifact required input from the staff and administration on currently technology operations. First, I developed a survey to gauge the faculty's current feelings and perceptions. Then, I sifted through the information to look at everyone's goals, thoughts, dreams, and disappointments, I was surprised at the universal willingness there was to use technology in the classroom. Several of my colleagues made remarks about their openness to technology; however, when it came to finding web tools to use it was difficult to find resources that were both engaging and content specific.
Completing this assignment proved that I am able to facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision. I took this information collected during the survey process and developed a practical five year plan that could be implemented in our school building. During this assignment, I felt like I was facilitating something meaningful for the first time. I looked at perspectives from multiple grade levels, teachers with different amounts of experience, and administrators. My principal was so excited about this that she asked to review the paper and the survey data with me after the assignment was completed. Because of the stakeholder involvement in the creation of this plan, I was able to become informed in the implementation of the new technology in our local school. In order for this plan's implementation to remain in tact throughout the next several years, it is crucial for me to continue to get input from the stakeholders and ensuring they are getting the coaching and professional development they need in order to be successful.
Throughout the development and implementation of this project, I was really able to see the desires of my colleagues and the multiple benefits of having defined technology goals. This project gave each stakeholder a voice and gave administrators an honest perspective of the staff's feelings about the procedures already in place. While the project is being implemented throughout the next five years, it would be beneficial to revisit the plan and goals sporadically. There will undoubtedly be changes in county and local school leadership and with these changes the goals will change. Since technology is constantly evolving, we can do the best we can to develop a plan for the future, but depending on technology trends our goals might change. Because of these limitations, I would make more generic goals for the project.
The shared vision plan impacts school improvement because it gives clear expectations to all school stakeholders. When expectations are clear, everyone has a defined purpose and roles. When teachers are given ongoing, relevant professional development, then their lessons will be better for students. As the five years continue, it is recommended that the school involves the teachers and students by giving satisfaction surveys. This will provide insight as to statistical and perceptional improvements being made in the school.
