Artifact: Internet Lesson Plan
Reflection:
The internet lesson plan was created as part of ITEC 7430 in the spring of 2015. This lesson was the culminating project for our unit on The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This lesson allowed students to create a technology based or paper and pencil based project to summarize what they learned from the novel.
During this assignment, students were asked to choose one topic they wanted to research from Percy Jackson, one scene or topic they were particularly interested. After this, students were given a list of artifacts to choose how they would present to their classmates. Throughout the creation of the project, many digital tools and resources were managed by the teachers. Students were able to thrive while creating this project because they were utilizing tools that were managed correctly and cognitively appropriate. Some of the tools utilized were Pinterest, Instagram, and PowToon. Connecting tools that the students use in their day-to-day lives made the project much more impactful and personal.
When I implemented this Alternative Book Report project this time, I gave students a lot of liberty over what kind of project they would present and what medium they would use to present it. Although the students were fine with this, it caused me to feel like I was stretched thin, and I would like to have more of a focus. Giving the project a more narrow focus will allow for more collaboration between students, and it will also help as I facilitate the project.
Students were affected by this project. This was an excellent exercise in summarizing what they had learned throughout the unit and allowed them to make connections with tools they were using in their day-to-day lives, such as, an Instagram account for their favorite novel character. This gave students some time to play with technology tools to show their learning.
