Artifact: Copyright Assignment
Reflection:
The copyright assignment was completed in the summer of 2015 during ITEC 7445. This project emphasizes visual copyright law, and was completed as an independent assignment. The assignment's focus is visual copyright for teachers.
This article models and facilitates the the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies by defining what copyright is, listing the most common violations in the teaching profession, and providing scenarios and solutions. Before the presentation is concluded, it offers a list of questions for teachers to ask themselves before they post something online. Copyright is a very tricky topic that is often overlooked by teachers. This presentation models scenarios and facilitates thought provoking conversation for teachers that will assure them that they are using safe, healthy, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technologies before they post information online.
This project was a great refresher for me. I realized I did not know as much about visual copyright as I had initially thought. During my undergraduate career, I learned about copyright laws for education, but it was nice to do some independent research and create realistic scenarios. This task made me think a bit more before I post information on our class website.
This project emphasizes the importance of copyright for teachers. After teachers have familiarized themselves with safe and ethical practices, teachers can create a secure online learning environment for students. In turn, students are able to flourish in a legal, safe learning environment.
