Artifact: One Hour Technology Workshop
Reflection:
This artifact was created in ITEC 7460, Professional Learning and Innovation. This project combined aspects of the ADDIE model, which was introduced in ITEC 7445, and the needs assessment administered earlier in the semester. After sifting through the data of the surveys, I followed the ADDIE model to create user-friendly workshop.
This artifact shows my ability to develop and implement professional learning from beginning to end. In addition to teaching a face-to-face session, I also uploaded YouTube videos and how to models on an online platform to integrate technology in a lasting way. The principles of this workshop aligned with the state and national professional standards of professional learning by promoting continuous learning, basic troubleshooting, and the management of digital tools and resources. In order to make the adult learning meaningful and engaging, I chose tools that could be used in every content area with every student in our school regardless of status or disability. Also, I made note of what things I liked about the good professional development I had attended in the past. I modeled these principles of adult learning in my presentation by giving the teachers time to explore each resource, giving them time to ask questions as they were working, and asking the teachers to bring a lesson plan that they want to change to the meeting. By conducting a session that impacted each content area the best practices in teaching, learning, and assessing were followed. Each teacher left the professional development session with a minimum of one tangible lesson they could then incorporate into their classroom.
My colleagues were very supportive during this professional development. I know this will not always be the case. In the future, I would keep my talking to a minimum and have the teachers work alongside me. On the online platform I utilized, I made the majority of the instructional screencasts before hand. Going forward, I think I would like to do it live.
Teachers were changed first by this workshop because it changed the way they structured at least one lesson. When they implemented this lesson, students were the beneficiaries of this workshop because the way they learn was altered. Now, students were in charge of creating something, instead of watching something the teacher created. Ultimately, this project was beneficial for all students and teachers involved. It allowed both to harness their creativity skills.
