Artifact: GAPPS Review/Current Reality
Reflection:
The GAPPS Review was created for ITEC 7460 in the fall of 2015. During this project, I interviewed my principal and analyzed current school data. I synthesized the information I collected in the GAPPS Review to determine a vision for our school. In part B of the GAPPS review, I analyze this data, rank our school, justify my evaluation, and offer suggestions to improve the system as we move forward.
The GAPPS Review was a very insightful assignment because I was able to design and implement goals specifically for my school based off current data available. I really enjoyed the balance of the assignment. We were able to compliment the school on what it was doing well and make suggestions for further improvements. When implemented, the recommendations will help teachers combine their content knowledge and pedagogical skills to create digital content that should increase student learning. With these few small changes implemented, such as, current, technology based professional development, our school should be able to make great strides.
I would like to do the GAPPS briefly once every school year as a leadership team. This gives everyone a chance to evaluate what is going on in the school and make recommendations for what to improve. It is very beneficial that you can not simply rank the school, but provide concrete evidence for why it deserves that ranking. This keeps bias and complaints out of the conversation.
First, the implementation of the GAPPS Review would require a cultural shift from our staff. We would need knew strategies for teaching and new procedures for the distribution of technology resources. As we adapt to our new strategies, then students will begin to see the benefits of technology based learning.
