Standard 3.7:Communication and Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
Artifact: Capstone Website
Reflection:
The My Georgia MOOC was created after the Educational Research class. The goal of this MOOC is to assist 7th grade students as they prepare for eight grade Georgia Studies. This MOOC website was used in conjunction with our class' private Edmodo page to ensure critical thinking, communication, and collaboration among myself and students.
The My Georgia MOOC website shows my ability to communicate with students on a digital platform and create materials that can be utilized both locally and globally. As students were working on the project, it was easy for my co-teacher, my teammates (peers), and I to collaborate with each other and identify they students who needed extra support because we were able to facilitate the project while students were in the lab. Students were given checklists and demonstrations on how to complete the designated work each module, so they understood exactly what the expectations were. This was a huge blessing to the parents of our students, who were notified approximately a month prior to completing this project. Because the website was available for their viewing, they were able to discuss with their student projects that might interest them. The larger community also collaborated with me as I developed this capstone. Once I came up with this idea, I immediately contacted both the social studies team and the digital transformation team at our county office. Of course, they were very excited about the possibility of implementing a MOOC that could be used throughout the county and were thrilled to help in any way possible.
Because of all the outside involvement, the MOOC was a great success. Students were excited to research a topic that interested them and present it to their peers. In the future, I would like to change my presentation methods. This year I had students flocking to the same presentation choice and it became very monotonous. This year, I plan on attending professional learning to assist me in finding new presentation tools and sharpening my PBL and blended learning teaching skills.
This artifact had the most bearing on me. I encouraged me to seek collaboration from those at the district level and to take on leadership roles within our grade level content area team. This was my first experience writing my own curriculum however I desired, and it was exciting. I feel so honored to be able to watch my students become passionate about their states history and watch them share this passion with their peers!
