Strategic Planning:
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans.
Reflection:
The SWOT Analysis was created for ITEC 7410, Technology Leadership, was completed during the spring of 2016. While creating this process, I had to analyze how technology was currently being utilized in our school and how we could improve. After compiling this data, my principal invited me to a leadership team meeting where I was able to present my findings to the team.
During the design process of my project, I critically evaluated what technology is currently in place and how often it is being used in our schools. Once I analyzed these things, I was able to take the data and develop a summary that reflected our school's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. After the plan was fully developed, I communicated my findings to the staff by presenting the SWOT at a leadership team meeting. I evoked participation from the leadership team and staff by facilitating a conversation by asking guiding questions at the end of each chunk of information. The team began talking about specific issues that might have been overlooked or ignored in the past, and began to purpose solutions. Because of the lag in the data due to a testing change, teachers were able to discuss the strengths and weaknesses with little to no personal attachment. Since the SWOT was completed and discussed among staff leadership, it is highly likely that it will be easier to design and develop a technology portion of the SSP. This will be implemented during the 2016-2017 school year.
This project aligns with Standard 1.2 because while creating the project I not only had to gather the information, but I also had to present the content and facilitate discussion among my colleagues. The SWOT Analysis covers all the elements within the standard from design to evaluation, and even includes plans to make changes that we can use moving forward in the future. In addition to being beneficial for our staff, it changed my perspective on how to review data and make specific changes to instruction based off of previous results.
This data helped facilitated crucial discussions among our leadership team, which led to major decisions that were incorporated into our school's strategic plan. Although not all aspects of the project were utilized, it gave our school some new things to think about as we were going to forward into a new year. As we look at the data, it helps us use this data to evaluate what technology items and other support strategies are needed to increase student achievement.
