This is a very brief screencast that gives an overview of the ABR assignment I did to conclude my unit on The Lightning Thief.

I love that you took a basic, less hands on project, and turned it into a more creative, technology based, alternative book report. I especially loved that students could come up with their own idea and run with it, as long as the teacher approved it. I would love more explanation on how you made sure your students were comfortable with the variety of Web 2.0 options. Did you teach the students how to use these tools or could they only use tools that they already knew how to use? Also, how did you allow for differentiation for students that are not well versed on the computer? One suggestion that I have for future implementation on the project would be to allow for group work, as you stated. This will allow for differentiation and peer support and collaboration.

I love that you allowed the students to do anything that was approved! Student choice is huge in fostering motivation. I also love that you have a Pinterest page for your classroom. Have you had any issues with student privacy? In regard to missing aspects of your project, I had trouble finding something. If I had to be picky, I might ask how you differentiated the text for readers that were extremely above or below the text level? I feel you did a great job, and my only suggestion is possibly allowing struggling learners to work in partnerships to create their presentations. Nice job!

Anna, Wow! I was not even aware that kids that young would create Pinterest pages. What a great way to get kids information on topics that they love or are interested in at such a young age! Seems like this could create some real smart kids at early ages.

Your lesson was very interesting. I love that you used a variety of tools and gave your students different choices. I'd also like to know how the text was differentiated for the students.

your fresh take on a traditional book report, and can definitely foresee implementing a similar project with my ELA classes. I thought the Pinterest page was a really creative project choice. I also liked that you required students to have paper copies of their information on hand in case their electronic work was lost. Did you require your students to turn in their paper information in along with their electronic final project?
